More efficient logistics and greater safety at the Leuna chemical site: Investment in new truck exit at Gate 12

InfraLeuna GmbH, owner and operator of the Leuna chemical site, is expanding the site's transport links. As part of this project, a new truck exit has been built at Gate 12 and the entrance and exit for cars has been modernized. The €1.5 million investment will improve transport processes, reduce waiting times, and increase safety.

Additional truck exit for optimized processes

Until now, truck traffic to the chemical site was only possible via Gate 6. The new exit at Gate 12 is specially designed for trucks. It was built as a two-lane, redundant facility for entering and exiting the plant premises to ensure smooth operations. The gate operates in self-service mode for truck drivers who have a personalized access card. With the additional exit option, Gate 12 significantly relieves Gate 6, reduces bottlenecks, and increases the stability of traffic flows overall.

Both Gate 6 and Gate 12 are seamlessly integrated into the traffic network, as they are directly connected to Federal Highway 91, thus ensuring an optimal connection to the highway.

Modernization of car lock operation

Furthermore, the entrance and exit for cars has been modernized. In addition to new stopping areas and barrier systems for cars, comprehensive measures to increase safety and efficiency are being implemented. This includes the installation of a modern camera system that will enable the recognition of people, vehicles, and license plates in the future.

In addition, pedestrian crossings and a new turnstile system for pedestrians and cyclists have been installed in the entry and exit areas.

The modernized gate operation and truck exit have been in operation since March of this year.

Outlook: Further expansion possible

With this infrastructure project, the chemical site is investing in modern, safe, and sustainable transport management—an important step in its ongoing development.

“This infrastructure measure will ensure that the site can meet growing logistical requirements. With the growth of the chemical site and the demands of our customers, Gate 12 also offers the potential for the construction of an additional truck entrance in the future,” explains Dr. Christof Günther, Managing Director of InfraLeuna. “The expansion of our gates will optimize transport processes, reduce waiting times, and increase safety standards. In doing so, we are creating a modern and sustainable transport infrastructure that will strengthen the site in the long term,” says Günther.
