Christmas donation 2024: InfraLeuna supports regional projects for culture and society

InfraLeuna supports restoration project and social initiatives

For years, InfraLeuna GmbH has been making a Christmas donation to projects in the region during the festive season. This year, the company is supporting two important initiatives. With a donation of 1,000 euros, the company is supporting the ‘Way with the Good Shepherd’ and contributing to the restoration of the historic sandstone figure above the portal of the Friedenskirche Leuna. The company is also supporting the ‘Wir helfen’ association of the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung newspaper with a donation of 1,000 euros to offer children in central Germany better opportunities and scope for development.

A contribution to Leuna's cultural history

The Friedenskirche Leuna, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2029, is an important monument in the region. Its construction was supported by the BASF ammonia plant in Leuna. Since its inauguration in 1929, the sandstone figure ‘The Good Shepherd’, created by the artist Theo Siegle, has stood guard over its entrance. The weather and time have taken their toll on the work of art, meaning that the figure needs to be restored.

„The restoration of the statue and the extensive preparations for the anniversary celebrations are a project that we as a company are happy to support”, explains Dr Christof Günther, Managing Director of InfraLeuna GmbH. „It is particularly important to us to contribute to the preservation of monuments that are not only of artistic value, but also reflect the identity and history of our region.”

The restored ‘Good Shepherd’ will greet visitors to church services, concerts and other events above the portal of the Friedenskirche in future and lend special splendour to the anniversary celebrations.

Prospects for children and young people in Saxony-Anhalt

The ‘Wir helfen’ support organisation has been committed to social projects for children and young people in the region for over 20 years. With its current annual theme ‘We help so that all children can develop freely’, the initiative is focussing on offering children in Saxony-Anhalt better opportunities. In view of the fact that one in four children there is at risk of poverty, the organisation specifically promotes social, cultural and sporting projects in order to strengthen talent and counteract child poverty.

„The work of the ‘Wir helfen’ association does important work to combat child poverty and promote talent in Saxony-Anhalt. We would like to contribute to this with our Christmas donation. It is important to us to strengthen social projects and give young people hope and prospects”, emphasises Dr Christof Günther.
